Hidden Europe

Susanne Kries and Nicky Gardner, authors of the 2009 Manifesto for Slow Travel (www.slowtraveleurope.eu), run the hidden europe editorial bureau in Berlin-Lichterfelde. The two woman are full-time writers and editors. They specialise in slow travel, write about cultures and communities across Europe and together edit hidden europe magazine (details on www.hiddeneurope.co.uk). Their book Europe by Rail: The Definitive Guide for Independent Travellers was published by Thomas Cook Publishing in March. Find out more at www.europebyrail.eu. A book on favourite bus journeys in Britain is published next month by Bradt Travel Guides. You’ll run across words and images by Nicky and / or Susanne in media across Europe: from the Kyiv Post to New Statesman, from the Barents Observer to Russian Life. Their writing on offbeat communities across Europe has been translated into Russian, Ukrainian, Polish, Italian, German, Spanish and Basque. (This text is a slightly amended version of an article first published as a hidden europe e-brief on 13 August 2011).
